Privacy Policy
Effective date: 1 January 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Pedagogue House collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use the Study4Exam platform.
1. Introduction
Pedagogue House ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Study4Exam platform. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we use it when you visit or use our platform at study4exam.ng.
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us at books@study4exam.ng.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, including:
• Account information: your full name (optional), email address, and hashed password when you register.
• Purchase information: the books you purchase and the date of purchase. We do not store card numbers — payment data is handled entirely by Paystack or Stripe.
• Reading activity: pages accessed, reading progress (last page read), and timestamps.
• Device information: browser fingerprint, user agent string, and IP address, used to enforce our device-limit policy and detect abuse.
• Communications: any messages you send to us by email.
We also collect certain information automatically when you use the Service, including log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, and access times).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
• Create and manage your account and authenticate your identity.
• Process payments and grant access to purchased content.
• Deliver the book-reading experience securely within your browser.
• Apply server-side watermarks to rendered pages (see Section 4).
• Send transactional emails — purchase confirmations, account-related notices.
• Enforce our Terms of Service, including detecting and investigating misuse.
• Monitor and improve the performance, security, and reliability of the platform.
• Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Watermarking and Content Protection
To protect the intellectual property of Pedagogue House and its authors, every page of every book rendered through the platform is dynamically watermarked server-side. Each page image is embedded with:
• Your registered email address
• Your purchase date
• The page number
This watermark is generated at the moment of your request and is applied to the image before it reaches your browser. The raw PDF is never transmitted to your device. Watermark data is derived from your account information solely for content-protection purposes and is not shared with third parties.
5. Information Sharing and Third-Party Services
We share limited information with the following trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the platform:
• Paystack (paystack.com) — payment processing for NGN transactions. Your payment data is governed by Paystack's Privacy Policy.
• Stripe (stripe.com) — payment processing for USD/international transactions. Your payment data is governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy.
• Resend (resend.com) — transactional email delivery. We share your email address and relevant purchase details to send confirmation emails.
• Amazon Web Services / S3 (aws.amazon.com) — secure private cloud storage for book files. AWS does not have independent access to your personal data.
• Supabase (supabase.com) — managed PostgreSQL database hosting. Data is stored in a private, access-controlled database.
• Vercel (vercel.com) — application hosting and global content delivery.
All third-party providers are required to handle your data in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We do not share your data with any other parties except where required by law.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:
• Passwords stored using bcrypt hashing (never in plain text).
• All data transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption.
• Book files stored in a private AWS S3 bucket with no public access.
• Access tokens with short expiry periods and refresh token rotation.
• Rate limiting on content-access endpoints to detect and prevent abuse.
Despite these measures, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specifically:
• Account data is retained until you request deletion of your account.
• Purchase and licence records are retained for a minimum of 6 years for accounting and legal compliance purposes.
• Page access logs are retained for up to 12 months for security monitoring.
• If you request account deletion, we will anonymise or delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
8. Your Rights
Subject to applicable Nigerian law, you have the right to:
• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
• Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention obligations).
• Object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at books@study4exam.ng. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies and session tokens to operate the platform:
• Authentication session cookie: stores your login session so you remain signed in between pages.
• CSRF protection token: prevents cross-site request forgery attacks.
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics tracking cookies, or third-party tracking pixels. You can configure your browser to refuse cookies, but doing so will prevent you from logging in to the platform.
10. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at books@study4exam.ng and we will take steps to delete such information.
Users between the ages of 13 and 17 must have parental or guardian consent to use the Service.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify registered users by email.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
